How Sankofa Speech Lab works

Getting started

Sankofa Speech Lab runs in any modern browser — phone, tablet, or computer. Open the app address and you'll see three doors on the landing page:

• 🎒 Student — I'm here for my session
• 👨🏾‍👧🏾 Parent — check on my child
• 📋 Therapist · Admin — caseload & planner

Demo accounts

For students

1. Tap the orange 🎒 Student door, tap your name, then type your 4-digit PIN. Signing in automatically records your attendance.
2. Your home page shows your points, stars, and Today's Mission.
3. The big orange button starts your 15-minute session with Miss Ama.

The 8 stages of a session

1. Sankofa Check — Before: 5 quick words to see where you start (no losing here!).
2. Get Attention: Miss Ama hooks you into the theme.
3. Set Direction: your mission for today.
4. Present: Miss Ama shows the visual anchor — the trick.
5. Show & Try: Miss Ama models 3 words, then you drill 10 items.
6. Summarize: lock in the three big ideas.
7. Sankofa Check — After: same 5 words — see how much you grew.
8. Results: confetti, stars, and your printable Sankofa Star Certificate.

Got it! ✓ = +10 points. Three in a row = ⭐ star. Try again? No worries — every practice makes your brain stronger.

For parents

1. Tap the green 👨🏾‍👧🏾 Parent door and log in with your username + PIN.
2. Each child has a card with a session-by-session Before/After progress chart.
3. See the latest session detail with the therapist's next step.
4. Full attendance history is available anytime.
5. A weekly home practice tip tells you exactly what to try at home.
6. Use the message thread to talk to the therapist. Messages from the therapist also arrive by email.

For therapists

Tap the purple 📋 Therapist door and enter the admin PIN. Therapist logins are never counted as attendance.

The five tabs

• Caseload — assign packs; criterion recommendations show automatically: ≥80% advance, 60–79% maintain with cues, <60% step back with support.
• Attendance — auto-captured log of every student sign-in.
• Messages — parent threads plus outbound email send.
• Accounts — PINs, recovery codes, NEW badges, reset PIN, link parents to students.
• Planner — preview packs and quick-add students.

Accounts & recovery

When you register, the app issues a random 4-digit PIN and a SK-XXXXX recovery code. Both are shown once on a purple credentials card — save them immediately.

Forgot a PIN? Tap Forgot my PIN, find your account, answer your security question, then reveal or reset. A therapist can also reset any PIN from the Accounts tab.

Troubleshooting

• Miss Ama isn't talking? Check the 🔊 Voice on / 🔇 Voice off toggle in the session header and your device volume.
• The timer skipped to the After-check. That's by design — when the 15-minute clock runs out, we jump straight to the after-check so growth still gets measured.
• Parent page looks stale? Pull-to-refresh (or reload) to fetch the newest session data.
• Emails not sending? The Resend API key must be set in project secrets — messages still save either way.
